Your role

Job Description:

• This entry-level/early career professional position with a focus on laboratory testing is designed or specifies test systems to run Cummins products in a laboratory environment for engineering evaluation to optimize product designs.
• This position also involves specification, design, implementation, verification, and support of test systems including mechanical, electronic, piping, instrumentation, data acquisition, and control systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Under the guidance of more experienced team members, investigate product test system and process issues, understand cause and effect mechanisms, propose appropriate actions, develop problem resolution, and document results.
• Apply and support the improvement of processes (e.g., test system specification, design, and verification) and tools (e.g., FMEA, 7-step problem solving, and process hazard analysis) needed to support processes and enable quality decision-making.
• Solicits input and consults with lab customers, lab technicians, and component suppliers, and delivers test system requirements, procedures, and instructions to lab technicians, product functional test engineers, and equipment suppliers.
• Make decisions on component selection, calibration processes, and operating procedures that affect test equipment accuracy, reliability, and operating costs.
• Develops problem solutions for moderately complex components, products, systems, subsystems, or services of increasing technical complexity and ambiguity as experience is gained in this position.
• Independently executes established work processes and systems while developing technical or product knowledge; participates in system and process improvements.
• Participates in basic direct personnel management, but may be involved in coordinating and directing efforts among technical staff and/or temporary student workers.
• Effectively contributes to team goals, influences within the work group, and continually improves abilities critical to success in the position.

• Functionality-based "X" product testing - Selects appropriate equipment and techniques to operate the product and record operational data in hardware or software-based test environments that are typically part of a product verification or validation plan; evaluates the quality and validity of the measurement data; analyzes test results using recognized standards to describe product performance consistent with the requirements of engineers responsible for product decisions.
• Laboratory Equipment Safety - Assess hazards unique to laboratory test equipment that may result from fuel, kinetic, toxin, electrical, or other risks in the test environment; analyze risk factors and potential impacts to personnel and property; implement appropriate technology or safeguards to mitigate risk; work with different laboratory areas to understand risks within the facility or site.
• Product Functional Test System Design - Interpret test equipment specifications based on test standards or lab customer requirements; select and integrate appropriate equipment, instrumentation, and software to control boundary conditions and collect measurement data; evaluate lab equipment capabilities based on requirements and supporting infrastructure.

Education, Qualifications, Certifications:

• Proof of qualifications is required. Applicants with a college, bachelor's degree, or equivalent degree or certificate in a relevant STEM field are preferred.
• Certain positions may require the equivalent of a bachelor's degree in a related professional field.
• This position may require a license related to compliance with export control or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

• Entry-level/early career professional. Candidates with relevant experience working in a lab/test room environment as a non-exempt employee, temporary student employee (internship, cooperative education activities), or as an early career professional in a related operations or technical discipline are preferred.
• Proficiency in MS Office tools is also preferred
